I recently learned of the inspiration for Green Day’s song Wake Me Up When September Ends. Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong wrote the song about his father who died of cancer on September 1, 1982. After his father’s funeral, his mother found him locked in his room crying. She knocked on his door and Billie said, “Wake me up when September ends”. This leads me to the relationship between the second wave of COVID 19 and the song’s origin. If you haven’t already said it about the pandemic, you’ve probably thought it… “wake me up when it ends!”
2020 has been a challenging year for all, period! Having said this, let’s be clear, challenging doesn’t mean awful and it doesn’t come without reward. It means offering a challenge and testing one’s ability.
During these sobering times, we are learning that the reward of our efforts is much more than just earning a commission. It's about the people we’ve helped along the way! In speaking with advisors, there have been many 'aha' moments shared about 2020. All because of the great work you have done, I’ve listened to some fascinating stories about claims you’ve delivered and how the financial solutions you’ve put in place have helped keep families and businesses in the black! I learned of a “going the extra mile” story last week of how an advisor found an apartment for a client’s son who was leaving for college in a distant city. Kingston Advisor, you deserve CE credits for that!
The pandemic may have stalled our business for a brief period, but the insurance advisor has proven to be a resilient species. We’ve seen great adaptation over the summer months that has showcased this resilience. September was one of the single greatest months for both written and settled production in over 12 months. Congratulations for the success you have enjoyed and to the families and businesses you have protected! You are making a difference in Canadian’s lives and helping them through these challenging times.
September has always been a strong month in our industry for written applications, but the settled numbers are telling us something. It appears that Canadians are serious about getting life insurance contracts in force!
Now that September has ended, we have a very important question for you! What is the one important thing QFS could help you with that would get you closer to achieving your Q4 objectives? Please reach out to a QFS Business Development team member or email insidesales@qfscanada.com and start a conversation. We are ready and eager to work with you and your teams to make the last quarter your best of 2020!
