Underwriting Changes at Equitable Life

Equitable Life has increased their preferred term underwriting minimum from $250,000 to $500,000. Effective October 16, 2017, medical evidence is no longer required on life insurance policies under $500,000 up to age 45 and on critical illness policies under $100,000 up to age 50. Please reference 1343 Evidence of insurability schedule to verify new underwriting requirements. What does this mean for the insured? Most clients won’t be required to undergo blood work or other medical testing for life insurance policies less than $500,000. We’re making it easier for your client to get more insurance! While Equitable Life’s sales illustration system will reflect this change effective October 16th, medical requirements shown in EZcomplete® will not be updated until mid-November 2017. Until that time, you and your client will have a couple options when applying for life products. If they want to benefit from preferred term rates a little longer, they can. If they want to expedite the underwriting process, simply skip the medical evidence. Please read our Transition rules for more details on how applications will be processed.
